Season 1: Episode #10: "How To Train People" w/Deannah Strashnikova
Today's Topic: While on the surface, being a dog trainer and a ballroom dance teacher couldn't be more different, upon further examination, the similarities are quite striking. They both teach people how to move their bodies in ways they've never done before, as well as teach people how to lead and guide their partners, whether that partner is a dance partner or man's best friend. That's why we invited Diana (Deannah) Strashnikova, the owner of DS Dancesport Ballroom Studio in Denver, CO, on the pod to discuss tricks of her trade that can be applied to dog training, and vice versa.
Guest Bio: Diana (Deannah) Strashnikova started dancing when she was 6 years old in Bulgaria, and is a professional competitive ballroom dancer in the United States of America. She graduated from Bulgaria's premiere higher education institution, the National Sports Academy, in Sofia, Bulgaria, where she specialized in teaching physical education. She's studied and utilized a diverse set of disciplines in her teachings, such as pedagogy, physiology, methodology and biomechanics. She moved to the United States in 2008 and started working for the biggest dance studio in Denver as a ballroom teacher/instructor, and a couple of years later she was promoted to be their Dance Director. Today she is the owner of DS Dancesport Ballroom Studio and continues teaching students from 7 years to 87 years of age for social and competitive dancing.
